Kidizoom Action Cam
Price: $60
Runs on: smart toy, camera
Ages: 4-up
For grades: P, K, 1, 2, 3
Teaches: a light, portable digital action camera
Like a "GoPro for kids" this small, durable, light camera takes plenty of low quality video and still pictures that can be displayed instantly on an onboard 1.4 inch color viewfinder. There's also a small speaker that makes it possible to instantly see your work.

The editor includes visual effects and mini-games; and there are some animated intros. The camera comes with 128 MB plus a micro SD slot for expansion. The camera charges and transfers information to a computer by way of a USB port. One weakness... you have to toggle a physical switch to change between camera and charge modes. This camera does not have a touch screen, which means children will need to use some fairly cryptic menu buttons. All things considered, the camera is fairly easy to use. When fully charged using the included USB cable, the camera will give you about 2.5 hours of operational time (the amount of footage depends on the size of the micro-SD card). The $60 kit includes a bike mount and a waterproofing kit. The camera joins the Kidizoom Smartwatch (also equipped with a camera). Comes in yellow, black or purple.
